AL ASKS KHALEDA TO WITHDRAW LEGAL NOTICE, THREATENS LEGAL ACTION
The ruling Awami League on Wednesday asked the Bangladesh Nationalist
Party chairperson Khaleda Zia to withdraw her legal notice served on prime
minister Sheikh Hasina, otherwise the party would go for legal action.
The party’s publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud came up
with the threat at a press conference at AL president Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi
office in the evening. The news conference was arranged in the wake of
Khaleda’s sending notice to Hasina.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan sent a
legal notice to the prime minister alleging that the prime minister brought
false claims against Khaleda Zia and defamed the BNP chief.
On December 7, prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a press conference at
Ganabhaban, spoke of Khaleda Zia’s wealth stashed in the Middle East. The next
day, BNP shot back saying the allegations are baseless and warned of taking
legal steps.
Awami League presidium member and agriculture minister Matia Chowdhury,
organising secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and office secretary Abdus Sobhan
Golap and others attended the press conference.
