FRENCH OPEN CHAMPION JELENA OSTAPENKO JOINS FORCES WITH SAM STOSUR’S FORMER COACH DAVID TAYLOR
Jelena Ostapenko pulled off a stunning title win at Roland Garros this year. |
CRACK Aussie coach David Taylor - who guided Sam Stosur to her 2011 US Open title triumph over Serena Williams - is French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko’s new mentor.
Formerly Australia’s
Fed Cup captain and long-term coach to Sam Stosur, Martina Hingis and Ana
Ivanovic, Taylor is one of the most respected tennis minds on the international
circuit.
Ostapenko had been
working with Spain’s Anabel Medina Garrigues.
The animated
baseliner told Latvian media she would team with Taylor for 15 weeks of the
season with a focus on the four majors.

“Our co-operation
with Anabel has come to an end and I will not be working with her next season,”
Ostapenko said.
“My mum (Jelena
Jakovleva) will always be my head coach, but now I’ve been practising with
David Taylor for two weeks.”
Medina Garrigues
will become captain of Spain’s Fed Cup team in January.
Taylor had recently
coached Naomi Osaka.
His collaboration is
the latest in this season’s coaching merry-go-round.
Andy Murray has
stopped working with Ivan Lendl, Stan Wawrinka and Magnus Norman are no longer
together and Marin Cilic has parted way with Jonas Bjorkman.
