THE STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA ARE BOYCOTTING THE CLASS TO PROTEST THE AFFILIATION OF AFFILIATED GOVERNMENT COLLEGES OF DHAKA UNIVERSITY.
DU students protest against affiliation of seven colleges.
The students have declared to continue their demonstration until the authorities meet their demand.
Over hundreds of Dhaka University (DU) students have staged a demonstration at the base of Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture at the TSC intersection on the campus, demanding a scrap of the affiliation of seven colleges with their institution.
They claimed on Sunday that the students of these colleges were tagging themselves to be DU students and engaging in various misdeeds using the identity.
DU students also blocked the adjacent roads from 12pm to 2pm by putting bamboos on the street leaving the commuters to wait for several hours in the traffic.
Students also formed a human chain at the base of Aparajeo Bangla, in front of the Arts Building, around 11am.
Later, agitating students went to the vice-chancellor (VC) to press home their demand.
“The VC has assured us that all the academic activities of the affiliated colleges will be conducted from their respective campuses. However, he did not mention any possibility of cutting ties with these colleges,” Moshiur Rahman Sadik, coordinator of the movement and a student of university’s Institute of Information and Technology told us.
The students have declared to continue their demonstration until the authorities meet their demand.
Later, the agitating students gathered at TSC interesection again and demonstrated for several hours, urging all DU students to avoid all academic activities except for the examinations on Monday.
The government had affiliated Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College with the Dhaka University last year.
