TRI-NATION SERIES TIGERS WIN BY 91 RUNS AGAINST ZIMBABWE
Bangladesh grab their third
victory in the tri-nation series as they defeat Zimbabwe by 91 runs.
It has been another dominant performance from
the Tigers as they bowled Zimbabwe out for 125 after posting 216 on the board.
Tamim Iqbal and
Sakib al Hasan struck fifties before bowlers provided stunning performances as
Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe by 91 runs in their third match of the tri-nation
tournament in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Chasing a decent
target of 217 runs, Zimbabwe lost wickets at regular intervals before they were
bowled out for 125 runs in 36.3 overs.
In-form Sikandar
Raza made 39 runs while skipper Graeme Cremer scored 23 runs for Zimbabwe.
Sakib al Hasan
produced yet another all-round effort as claimed 3-34 while scoring 51 off 80
deliveries with bat.
Mashrafee bin
Murtaza, Sunzamul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman all chipped in with claiming two
wickets each for the Tigers who registered three consecutive victories in the
series.
Earlier, Zimbabwe
restricted Bangladesh to 216-9 in 50 overs despite Tamim and Sakib each scoring
a fifty.
Man-of-the-match
Tamim scored highest 76 off 105 balls- his third fifties in as many matches of
the tournament- which, at 66, also made him first Bangladeshi to complete 6,000
runs in ODIs.
Tamim earlier at 42
also become the highest run-getter in ODI in a single venue, surpassing for Sri
Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya’s 2,514 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium in
Colombo.
Tamim and Sakib
shared 106 runs for the second wicket after Bangladesh, who won the toss and
opted to bat, lost opener Anamul Haque for one.
Bangladesh collapsed
spectacularly losing six wickets for 23 runs after Mushfiqur Rahim (18)
followed Sakib.
The Tigers had their
lower order batsmen to thank to help them past 200-run mark and stay in
contention for their 10th successive win over Zimbabwe as Suznamul Islam made
19 and Mustafizur Rahman remained unbeaten 18.
Rubel Hossain struck
a six in the final over before Mustafiz signed off with a four in the final delivery.
Skipper Graeme
Cremer claimed 4-32 runs for Zimbabwe while Kyle Jarvis chipped in with 3-42.
Zimbabwe still have
the chance to qualify for the finals on January 27 if hosts Bangladesh defeated
Sri Lanka by big margin in their next match on Thursday.
