Five senior lawyers of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia met her at the former Dhaka Central Jail complex on Nazimuddin Road had consultations for around an hour.

They met her to discuss legal issues and getting necessary authorisation.

BNP standing committee members and lawyers Moudud Ahmed and Jamiruddin Sircar, BNP chief’s adviser Khondkar Mahbub Hossain, former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali and lawyer Abdur Rezzak Khan reached the jail gate at round 3:00pm and entered the jail at around 4:25pm.

They came out of the jail at around 5:45pm.

Coming out of the jail Moudud Ahmed said Khaleda Zia is well though she is kept as general prisoner despite deserving division privilege in at least three out of 18 categories of the revised jail code.

Moudud said though the government claims that Khaleda was given an assistant in jail but in realty she was kept alone and the food served to her are inedible.

‘She is not given the food prepared at home,’ Moudud said.

Moudud said Khaleda is deliberately kept in solitary confinement simply to harass her. ‘It is against the constitution.’

‘She cannot move alone as she had a major surgery in her knee. We will go to the High Court and if necessary to the home ministry on the issues,’ he said.

Asked whether they had contacted the jail authorities to get Khaleda division privilege, Moudud said there is no need to contact the authorities. ‘The law clearly says what would take place. Division privilege is supposed to begin automatically,’ he said.

Actually the government is doing all these to irritate Khaleda, he said.

Moudud said they might file appeal against the trial court verdict if the copy of the verdict is available on Sunday.

Khandkaer Mahbub Hossain and AJ Mohammad Ali told New Age that Khaleda’s moral was high comparing the past.
