KHALEDA ZIA SAYS JUSTICE WOULD ACQUIT HER
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia addressing media at her political office in Dhaka's Gulshan on February 7, 2018, just a day ahead of the verdict of the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case verdict. |
Bangladesh Nationalist Party
chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday said if justice is done in the
‘fabricated’ Zia Orphanage Trust graft case she would be acquitted from
charges.
She said if rule of
law and independence of judiciary exists those who had filed the fabricated
case would face litigation and those who instructed them to file the case would
also be punished.
‘If anything else
takes place in the verdict to please the ruling quarters, it will remain as
history of stigma. People of Bangladesh do not forgive offenders and will not
do so,’ she said
Khaleda blamed the
ruling quarter for unleashing a reign of terror across the country ahead of the
verdict of the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case scheduled to be announced
tomorrow.
"I was
implicated in a false case and a verdict is going to be announced against me
tomorrow. The government has materialised a reign of terror centering the
verdict," Khaleda said on press conference at her Gulshan office today .
Blaming the
government for hatching a plan to keep her away from the election and people,
Khaleda said, ‘I am ready for any situation. There will be no result
threatening me of jail or conviction. I will not bow down my head.’
The BNP chief
alleged that the court is being used to keep her away from political arena,
election and the people. ‘But I think it would not fulfill their intention of
impose one-party rule and score goal in empty post,’ she added.
Describing the
government as illegal and immoral, Khaleda said the ruling Awami League has no
moral courage and people's supports and thus it fears to go for an inclusive
election under a neutral government.
"Awami League
is hanging on to power based on its muscle power and by letting loose state
machineries against the people," she said.
